LAMOST Postdoctoral fellowship position

in extragalactic astronomy and cosmology research

The Guo Shoujing - Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) was inaugurated in 2009, and is now being commissioned. Anticipating its science run in 2011, the LAMOST Fellowship in Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology supports outstanding postdoctoral scientists whose research will be directly related to LAMOST extragalactic surveys, including theory/simulation, data analysis, observation, instrument and software development. Applications are solicited for fellowships to begin in the fall of 2011, and selected by the LAMOST extragalactic survey commission. We anticipate offering up to 5 fellowships this year.

This program is open to applicants of any nationality who have earned or will have earned their doctoral degrees in astronomy, physics, or related disciplines, and have a demonstrated record of research excellence. The fellowships are tenable at mainland China host institutions which have agreed to join the program (list attached below). The duration of the fellowship is up to three years: an initial one-year appointment, and two annual renewals contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of LAMOST fellowship funds. A remuneration package will be provided, including an experience-based annual salary of about 100,000 Yuan- 250,000 Yuan (current exchange rate is 100 Yuan~US$15) and a research budget of 50,000 Yuan.

The applicant should obtain the provisional acceptance from a host institute and a supervisor from the faculty of the host institute. A list of host institutes which have joined the fellowship program are listed in the program website, together with some potential supervisors in these institute and their research interests.

The Application must include the following materials: a cover letter (which specifies the host institute and supervisor), a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, a research statement,  which should include a summary of previous researches and the proposed research and its relation with LAMOST.
